That’s how we roll
Just a quick update to those of you who read this and are not currently trying to fight baddies in Champions Online. So…probably like two of you
Day one (well, official day one) of Champions Online met it’s customers with a nerf bat patch that seems to have made mobs a bit harder to kill. People are not ammused and want the patch rolled back and reevaluated. I didn’t (read: couldn’t) go through all the pages in that linked post (come’on, it was 81 friggin pages at the time I wrote this) But even on the last page there wer still people /signing the petition for Cryptic to roll the patch back. Wow that thing must’ve screwed some stuff up.
I’m actually going to pull a Frank on this one. While this day one shot in the foot may be an embarrassment for Cryptic, it’s fixable. Easily fixable. They should just roll the thing back and say, “Okay, we messed up, we’ll check it out and drop a new patch in next week (or better yet, when it’s done)” It’s bad publicity for sure, but nothing that can’t be worked out and made to be water under the bridge for the first month’ers playing the game.
Let’s also hope that fixing the patch might also fix some peoples graphical problems.

From a fairly uneducated (of the game, not saying I’m stupid
) perspective, it sure looks like Cryptic is just doing whatever it pleases… sort of reminds me of Mythic back in the first few months of WAR.

I can’t understand how a decision like this gets made. The mere mention of a launch day patch should have earned a swift kick in the balls to the person who uttered the suggestion. What a terrible business move.

It’s actually not as bad as people are screaming all over. Some areas got overnerfed, and I think that they really do need to readjust it. However, I was easily solo’ing super-villians and their little buddies, ending the fight with over half life before this. Defense powers, especially the passives, WERE too powerful. That said, they shouldn’t have done both the up-tick of mob power, and the down-tick of defenses. One or the other would have been sufficient.

And not on day 1. That’s what gets me the most.

I agree Slurms. It’s not the particular changes that surprise me as I’m never one to really complain all that much about nerfs. What surprises me is the timing. We’ve been shown time and time again that the first 3 months of an MMO are crucial to the success or failure of the game. It doesn’t matter how minor or major the changes are, they had to know some people wouldn’t be happy with them, and this kind of thing takes on a life of it’s own. We know all about first impressions, and Champions has just made a terrible first impression.
