I think you really nailed what I find exciting about MMOs and online communities in general. Here's an opportunity to present a side of myself that I don't normally get to pull out in day-to-day life. I get to present this side of myself to a group of people who have no preconceived notions about who I am or what I'm supposed to be like, and with no strings attached. I'm actually a lot nicer online than I am in real life. I have no responsibilities online, no pressure, no expectations, so I can simply have fun and I'm much more relaxed because of that.
