It isn't so much a drug addicition sort of metaphor. I think it is more like when there is a tv show you loved, but it ends. You keep searching for another show to fill the void, but none quite satisfy. Either they are too different, or to much of a rehash. So you watch reruns, but that doesn't really satisfy. When a new show comes out, you rush to watch the first few episodes, but then you lose interest when it doesn't live up to the memory of the show you loved.

I know exactly how you feel, I have been known to have more than one MMO active at one time.

Sit down, shut up, enjoy the ride.

I couldn't agree more with you. Except replace mage with paladin. And replace floor tasting with bubble-hearthing.

My friends have also splintered since, and I hope one day we can be brought together by something that gave us as much pleasure in wasting countless hours wasting on a bitch of a boss.

I understand where you are coming from. I've played MMOs almost exclusively for the last several years, not bothering with stand alone games. I like the social interaction combined with gaming. But there just isn't anything out there right now that can hold my attention. So I toy with the thoughts of going back to some of the MMOs I used to love, knowing it will probably only hold my attention for a couple of months. I think a break might not be such a bad thing.

I think that you're vaguely addicted to the concept of MMOs, but don't know what or why. It's like you got a tolerance to WoW, and can't find a new drug. I guess my general suggestion would be to get out, but I don't know if that's quite the right train of thought either.
