For Shame!
So, I did something today that I swore I would never do. I’ve broken one of those unwritten commandments of a “serious” gamer. I should be hanging my head in shame I suppose. And yet I have to admit that I have too much of “nanner nanner, IN YOUR FACE” feeling going on to be completely ashamed of myself. So, what is this ultimate gamer sin I have committed?
I spent money on a Facebook game.
That’s right. I did it. In a moment of sheer “Suck It!” attitude, I whipped out the most ultimate of my weapons, the Disney Chase card. Not only do I get the fleeting satisfaction of thwarting an opposing Facebook gamer, but I also earned me some Disney Reward points in the process.
I have played Kingdom of Camelot on and off again in Facebook for quite some time. Admittedly, I have not been playing much as of late. I’ve never been that much into Facebook games and I do not work at a desk. So my Facebook time typically consists of a quick check before I leave for work and maybe once in the evening. After being absent from KoC for a little over a week, I log in to find multiple scouting reports and notification of “impending attack”.
Hmmm. Screw you. I set my troops to defend and easily wiped out the attacking force. I check alliance status. My alliance is set to “neutral” with hers. I see that after I have wiped her forces, she is sending another attack. So I message her. (I’m copying and pasting here, so excuse her grammar. =P)
“We are not at war. Why do you continue to attack me?”
“because i scouted and you had not been on in a while looking for a farm. also in my scout report your troops were not defending because I lost no scouts, you just set to defend and now I lost 100k troops. My scout report said you had not been on since the end of september”
“Well, I’m back now. I logged on to find an impending attack. What would you have done?”
“same thing i guess, but i dont know why you are complaining to me about attacking you most active people leave their troops on defend. most people in your alliance are inactive”
Hmmm. Yes, my alliance is pretty inactive these days. She has at least 1.5 times my Might and is in the #3 Alliance on our server. But her attitude really pissed me off. Instead of saying, “Ok, I see that you aren’t inactive to farm, I’ll look elsewhere”, she gets her panties all in a wad and wants to push the point. So I message her alliance leaders and ask that they stop the attacks. The response is that she gets some friends to send troops my way.
So I did what any reasonable 30 something woman with a career and mad money to burn would do. I whipped out the plastic, bought me some gems, moved my cities many provinces away, changed my names and evoked the Mists of Avalon to protect me for a week. I had visions of Kathy Bates in “Fried Green Tomatoes” when she smashes the young girls’ car and says “Let’s face it, I’m older and have more insurance”.
The irony of this situation is that I really intended to quit KoC. And yet when I logged in to find my virtual cities of pixelated resources and people being ransacked, looted and plundered, I simply couldn’t stand it. It’s mine! All mine, I tell you! Begone! I shorted her all the virtual booty! Ha! I won! It only cost me 30 of my very real dollars. Shut up! I won, I tell you…

I admit to buying a couple of items from the Everquest 2 marketplace. There were two outfits that I just had to have! Now they are selling character slots and I need two more so that I can have all the crafting classes.
Since I pay a subscription, I’m not really all that fond of the marketplace despite the fact that there is a new gi available that any class can wear. *sighs*
Its okay Maeve, we all have moments of weakness.
After all, at one point we played Champions Online. xD
Oh I had to buy that Gi crate in EQ2 heh. I don’t mind supporting games I enjoy, spending a few bucks here and there isn’t a big deal with me. As long as it’s fluff!
For shame! Facebook games are evil
ahhh — I’ve had the same desire but in cases where I am parted with my cash I must have more willpower than other things my mind lends me to do.
In this case you got your last laugh and sometimes that is worth the cost.
Definitely worth it to beat them.
