Guild Wars 2: Let’s Make Memories
It feeeeels like the fiiirst tiiime....
They say it will never be like the first time. We have very little chance of reliving our early MMO experiences again for many reasons. Primarily because when you first dove into the genre it held a certain magic within its unexplored territory. As time goes on and MMO after MMO is visited, an entirely unique experience isn’t likely going to happen. Innovation will occur because that’s what players want, but developers are too afraid to introduce it on a large scale.
Given how long and how many MMO’s I’ve played over the years, mixed with the increasing rate at which I grow bored with them, I sometimes feel as if Guild Wars 2 is my last chance at finding the MMO I want. Nothing has felt like home in so long. So yeah, I’m excited about Guild Wars 2. Perhaps I’m too excited, as I often am. But instead of being anxious for the game because of the promises of something new and different, I’m eager for something, in some small way, to be old and familiar. While I can easily poke holes in the idea that the PvP offered this time around is a replacement for the memories that I earned in Dark Age of Camelot, it does look damn good. I can only hope that maybe, just maybe I can make some new memories with Guild Wars 2 that will finally be on par with the game I’m forever nostalgic about.

I actually thought SWTOR would be that game for me, unfortunately it was not. I jumped on hype train and was dropped off at disappointment station. Life has been busy lately and I have barely played anything except the occasional Mario Cart with my son. I can’t even tell you when the last time I went this long without an active game to play. I don’t know anything about GW2 and honestly have not been reading anything except some MP posts and tweets. The fact that you even think it could be on par with some of your earliest MMO memories has me intrigued. There hasn’t been any departures from disappointment station in a while, I’ll check the schedule and maybe we’ll see each other in Guild Wars 2.
