I’m Booked Solid

My gaming library will soon be bursting at the seams with new releases to be played. I’ve recently finished off Uncharted 2’s single player game and started in on the multiplayer (I’m currently level 7). I still have Dirt 2 to kick around whenever I get a need for speed. Team Fortress 2 is always there for me when I have a feeling that someone needs to get exploded. And I still have my current MMO of choice, Aion to run to when I feel like devoting time to a character and chatting with friends. But starting today, and going on for the next three weeks, I will be adding new members to my virtual family. This will be the last run of games for me before Xmas, as in my house we (meaning my wife) have a strict “no purchase of fun stuff starting in November” policy. There have been a couple incidents in the past when the items on my list to Mrs. Claus have ended up getting bought beforehand. (oops!) So fear not gentle reader, I should have a lot to write about over the coming weeks. Here’s what you can look forward to reading about:

torchlightToday, Torchlight. I pre-purchased this on Steam last night and got the hugemungous 10% discount. I had actually been debating whether to get this or not for a couple reasons. One, because it’s a Diablo style game, and I’ve not ever been the biggest fan of that style. Two, because there’s so much other stuff that I want to play, it will probably get lost in the shuffle. But I ended up picking it up because I really think it looks fun, it seems like it will be a great pick up and play game like TF2, it’s only 20 bucks, and lastly, because I need questioning material for our interview early next month.

dragon-ageNext week, Dragon Age: Origins. This. Game. Looks. Badass. While I’ve never swooned over titles like Planescape: Torment or Baldur’s Gate, I have enjoyed them. I love the character advancement and story in those titles, but the isometric view always kept me from really feeling involved in the action, which may be why I’ve never gotten into Diablo, and I’m a little worried that I’ll like Torchlight. It works in strategy games, but I like being a little closer to the action in a role playing game. Behind the back is my RPG camera angle of choice. Seeing as Dragon Age offers this (in fact it looks to be made for it), and still has the BioWare signature story telling, I may be in trouble of getting hooked in. The one thing that really bums me out about the game is the lack of any sort of multiplayer. Initially, I though since this was the case, that I’d buy it for the Playstation 3 so I could offload it when I was done, but from video’s I’ve seen of the Xbox 360 version, the controls drove me away from that descision. Good news is that the PC version comes with all the campaign creating tool sets you could want, so DLC won’t be an issue, making this a game to revisit for quite some time.

call of duty 6 modern warfare 2Lastly, in two weeks, Modern Warfare 2 hits. Much like Uncharted 2, this one looks to have a single player storyline that will have you begging for more, and then the multiplayer element that will keep you booting it up day after day. The trailer that came out for the game is simply awe-inspiring. If you haven’t had the pleasure of seeing it, check it out here. But really, there’s not much that I can say about this game that you don’t already know. If you play games, you know what this is, and you will either be buying it, or not. I will be, and hope to see you online.

The craziness of these next few weeks is like a gaming smorgasbord. Every night I’ll sit down, and really not know where to begin.

My situation reminds me of a scene from Futurama:

Bender – “I think for the first time in my life I feel like I’ve stolen enough.”

/SLAP

Fry – “Bender, snap out of it!”

Bender – “Sorry, I don’t know what came over me.”

been hearing interesting things about it. it might be a Hellgate:london that works b/c it doesnt go MMO, it goes … Medium Multiplayer online. up to 4 people co-op or 4v4 pvp?

    • Slurms says:

Abb just picked it up, so we may talk about it on the next show. I believe there is no pvp, just co-op through the single player. It’s Diablo with guns from what I’ve seen. Heard some great things though.

  • Pazzolupo says:

Boycott Modern Warfare 2! They killed the online multiplayer for PC players by publicly announcing they will NOT support mod tools or have dedicated servers! Though, it will likely still do fine. Counterstrike didn’t have dedicated servers either right? So, who knows.

  • Grok says:

I want to try Borderlands too, but my budget just won’t allow for it. It’s the coop thing that jazzes me about it. It just looks like the perfect game to play with a select group of friends.

Yeah, they backed em out to next year to fine tune them, and because there’s so many damn games coming out right now that it would have cannibalized their sales a bit.
