Lucy in the Skyrim with Dragons

Well it seems that I can’t ignore vast amounts of excitement from my peers. Some may refer to it as hype, but even that humble term is hard to use anymore without looking like a total asshole.

I’ve not talked much about Skyrim, at least not from the perspective of being anxious about it, and to be honest, this post is really just an excuse to use that clever title. Look at it. Isn’t it clever? It’s like a raptor it’s so clever. I digress. Until now, the extent of my vocalization on the subject has been limited to worry of purchasing it based on my jagged history with first person RPG’s.

For the past month, I’d chosen to just ignore the game. Instead, planning for Saints Row: The Third and Assassins Creed: Revelations to be the metaphorical stepping stones on my road to Star Wars: The Old Republic. Both games I could see being “done with” by the time late December hits and TOR strolls down the isle like a new bride, ready to start a new life with me. Will it be a happy marriage? Will it end in divorce? Who knows! But I largely don’t care about the possible negative ramifications.

What I do know is that I’ve canceled my preorders for the aforementioned games (well, not TOR, of course) and will be buying Skyrim instead. People just won’t shut the hell up about it! Or at least I keep allowing myself to listen to them. Still going with blaming other people though!

I’m actually looking at the game with a bit of a different perspective now. Since playing and falling madly in love with Dark Souls, I think it will be interesting to compare that game with what is heralded as the biggest fantasy RPG of the year. Dark Souls is already a major contender as my personal “game of the year,” so I’m curious to know if I’ll have room in my life for both. Adversely, if I don’t, which one will be the victor?

At the very least I can pay attention to the internet next weekend after Skyrim comes out. You people are relentless, you know that?

  • I cannot wait for Skyrim. I have purposely avoided information about it and hope to dive in blind. Seeing the results of the lessons Bethesda learned from Oblivion and Fallout will be…well, hopefully fucking awesome.

Speaking of cancelled pre-orders…I cancelled TOR the other day. I just can’t do it!
