MMO Mix Tape: 1 if by land, 2 if by space…
The MMO Mix Tape is where I give a quick update on my MMO gaming choices. Yes, it’s pretty sad that I have a segment on the changes in my MMO playlist.
Star Trek Online – The first one on my playlist isn’t actually a change; it’s just an update to say that I still like Star Trek Online. No, really!I haven’t moved ahead in the game very far, I’m only Lieutenant Commander 6 (which is the equivalent to level 16), but I’m still taking it very slow and trying to enjoy the game. There are lulls where I need to grind some missions to get enough experience to finish off a level, but they are quickly forgotten once I get into a story mission. Minus the ability to choose a response to the NPC’s, I really think the missions in STO will be like what we’ll see in Star Wars: The Old Republic. If so, this is a fantastic thing.
The one thing I still have a hard time with in Star Trek Online is the apparent level of depth to the skills and abilities. There’s a ton of stuff going on, and if you are a min/maxer, you’d probably love it. But while I think it does matter to put points into something so you can specialize in an area of the game, I really am starting to see what Brian said on the show about it maybe being bullshit. I hardly ever put points into my skill trees, and I’m doing just fine in the game. I rarely die on the “Normal” mission setting. But maybe the alternative of that is if I really figured out what does what, and concentrated on a certain area of ability, that I could do just as well on a higher difficulty. Any STO players have a response to this? Are the points sort of BS?
Age of Conan – Okay, I couldn’t keep playing. I really think the only reason I stopped is because of what I mentioned in a previous article about needing people to talk with. I mean, that is why I’m playing…
World of Warcraft – Yes, I know, I’ve probably turned up my nose at people in conversations regarding this leviathan of a game, but I hope to explain why that is and if my mood on the game has really changed in the coming posts regarding my return. I never hit the end game in WoW, and I may not reach it this time either, but I’m going to see what’s changed since I played last (which was right before the Lich King expansion hit) and try to have fun doing so. As long as I have people to talk with, I just might make it there. More on this later, so stay tuned.
Oh, by the way, if you’re interested in joining my and other Multiplayer’s exploits in WoW, feel free to join us on Silver Hand/Alliance. You can check out the Circle of Trust revival over here. Enjoy!
Oh, also the boombox pic made me want to post this:

Hey, who’s that dude with the face in the post pic? He looks constipated!
I’m trying to get through the STO demo, and I just don’t see what you guys are seeing. Everything feels so janky and slow and needlessly complicated.
I can’t believe I bought this song… stupid catchy beat.
