No Vita… for now

LALALA... NOT LOOKING.... DOO DEE DOO DEE DOO.... CAN'T SEE YOU...

It’s been so long since we’ve had a new hardware release that I found exciting. Save for having a portable version of Street Fighter IV, the 3DS did nothing for me. Until either 3D goes away or is shown to me as the one true power for viewing movies and games I shall carry this pitchfork and torch. The last portable gaming device I bought unless you count the iPad (which I don’t) was a PSP. It seems odd to me in some way that the next device that I’d be interested in lugging around would be another Sony handheld, especially given that I’d all but written off the idea of portable gaming after owning their previous kit.

Don’t take that the wrong way. I really liked the PSP. It was a fun toy and the simple fact that I could have Final Fantasy Tactics with me wherever I went filled me with glee. My issue came from rarely being in the position to play a handheld game. About the only time that made sense was during my lunch break at work, but let’s face it, the PSP isn’t exactly a pocket sized item. This problem persists with the Vita. In fact, it’s worse.

I’ll be dammed if I don’t have a desire to own the thing, though. With the pretty great launch lineup, laundry list of PS1 games that will be available, the amazing new OLED screen and twin sticks, there’s so much about that hunk of plastic and metal that I want. It’s like a woman with her breasts hanging out in plain site in front of me while my wife is trying to tell me something important.

MUST. NOT. LOOK.

Maybe one day I’ll be able to touch those breasts…. I mean the Vita…

I mean the breasts.

Lemme get this straight…there’s a bare chested woman in front of you.

In the same room as you.

    And your wife.

And apparently that woman is NOT your wife, judging from the context…

WHY ARE YOU WRITING ABOUT THE VITA?!

  • Scopique says:

    But seriously, folks.

The term “mobile gaming” doesn’t need to be taken literally. I frequently sit at home in the living room with the Vita. I’ve also sat in front of the computer with the Vita. And here’s a slide of me in Paris with the Vita. And so on.

The real reason to go for one is the experience of the games. Uncharted for Vita is excellent. Wipeout 2048 makes me want to throw the device against the wall in frustration (which is a selling point for the game). You COULD get these experiences on the PS3, but now you’re talking the INVERSE of mobile: you HAVE to stay in one place to play them, and you’re screwed if you can’t, or don’t want to.

DUUUUUUDE! Veva las Vita! I stayed up surfing porn on it last night . Man I was working those 3 joysicks like I was 17 again

  • Scopique says:

    You should get that checked.

My thought process is usually that if I’m sitting in a spot of the house where I can have a more substantial gaming experience with a larger screen, I’m going to do that rather than sit with my neck cranked down looking at a handheld. I love the portability and I lust for some of the exclusives… but I can’t justify the cost for the small amount of time I’ll use it. I can buy a nice handful of games for $250… or a new monitor… or like 50 3 lb bags of Gummi Bears…

  • Pandalishus says:

Can we just establish right now that “a woman with her breasts hanging out in plain site in front of me” may not always be something one can’t take his eyes from? In my experience, the assumption that breasts have an all-powerful hold over the male eye is disproven quite often at the topless beaches of Europe, where age limits are not enforced…

  • Rer says:

I’m having a really hard time understanding the Vita’s new marketing, with the “Augmented Reality” thing.

Does the Vita actually do that?
