Slurms’ WoW Revisit – Step one: accounting
My return to World of Warcraft got off to a rough start to say the least. It began with attempting to claim a 10 day resurrection scroll sent to me by fellow Multiplayer Dean. I went to my account management via the game’s site and, once I remembered my password, was told that my account was permanently disabled. I tried resetting my password and giving it another go, but still, I was denied. The little orc told me that I needed to contact Blizzard via email, so I did.
A couple days later with no reply (other than the automated one) and I had pretty much figured my attempt at returning to WoW was going to be a failure. I had mixed emotions to say the least. On one hand I figured, “hey, I have enough games to play, don’t really need to add to the pile.” But on the other hand I really wanted to see what’s changed since I played last and really wanted the opportunity to play with some friends who typically don’t play the same titles as I do.
So then the day after I presumed my account dead or stolen by haxors, I got an email stating that my account was reactivated. Well groovy! Except when I then went to claim the resurrection scroll, nothing happened. Really, I’m still unsure of what was up with this. Maybe something wrong with their site, but when I clicked the huge box to confirm my acceptance of the scrolls awesome powers, it simply refreshed the page. But there was an alternative. It showed me that I could instead use a 10 day trial of Wrath of the Lich King. Sure, why not. I proceeded to download the game and went to bed.
I played the next night and quite enjoyed my time. The game was mostly unchanged since last I played, that is at least from a newb perspective since I had started a new character on a server I’d never used before. But I liked that I was socializing with friends. I enjoyed it enough that I actually went out the next day and picked up the WOtLK expansion and resubscribed. Upon the suggestion of others, the next morning I downloaded the authenticator for my iPod touch and headed to work. “I’ll add it to my account when I get home,” I thought. Then more bad news came.
Only one day after I added my expansion key and set up my payments, my account was locked again due to my password being changed, and I wasn’t the one who changed it. Yes, I had already had my account hijacked just one day after reopening it. ONE DAY! Luckily, I was able to just reset my password and get back in. But for this go, I wasted no time adding the authenticator to my account. I’m happy to say that I’ve had no problems since. I hope it stays that way.
So yeah, I’m playing WoW. Honestly, the story about getting my account under leash is more exciting than anything I’ve done in-game yet. I’m only level 10. I’ll come back with more once I have something read-worthy for you.
