SWTOR, PvP and Me
Show of hands.... who hates Huttball?
SWTOR and myself have been on… a bit of a break. “OH SNAP, STEVE’S QUITTING SWTOR!” No… no… nonononono. Not yet. We just needed to see other games for a while. If anything, I’m a little too complacent with the game already. It’s become something that I can totally go back to every now and then, but I really don’t want to overstay my welcome. So for now, I’ll just keep popping in a couple times a week and slowly make my way to the end game.
A large part of my problem is that I have no desire to alt. The Smuggler is the only class that even remotely interests me a this point. I also have no desire to raid. I’ve never been big into end game content in MMOs unless it’s PvP based…and that brings me to my last issue.
There were two things I was very hopeful for with SWTOR; space combat and PvP. I had my doubts about both, but of the two I figured there was a better chance I’d enjoy PvP given that BioWare had Mythic employees to aid them (although to what degree I have no idea) in the process. Space combat ended up being something I truly enjoyed, but could be quite repetitious if done daily. What I didn’t expect was to have the same repetitive feelings cross over to PvP.
I’ll just say that I think Huttball is a fine PvP match if you’re going in amongst friends, but for someone like me who solo queues for the majority of the time it can be quite painful to endure. The Voidstar is decent enough, but I rarely feel like any match is closely contested. Just like Huttball, it’s often too one sided to be a fun experience, even if you win. Alderaan is the only mission I find enjoyable. So to have only one mission be fun for me and have it be the only one I feel is worth my time over the course of 49 levels… it gets old. At least in Warhammer Online the scenarios changed up every 10 levels, plus you could go into open RvR for kicks.
Even with my gripes, though, I still find SWTOR to be fun. It just seems that the newness has already run its course for me and I’m reduced to playing other aspects of the game until something is done to spice up the rest. Hopefully that comes sooner than later.
