The art of Thorsten Denk
I wasn't expecting to post about Team Fortress 2 fan art this week. Let alone do so twice. But hey, when it's worth sharing...
As most of you probably don’t know, at one time I wanted to be a graphic designer. Except back when I was in high school we called it commercial art. I took twice as many art electives as most kids in school because I really thought it was the direction I wanted to go. In my senior year I decided against it. I doubted my abilities and was fearful of the huge life changing decisions I’d have to make in order to see such a career through. While I’m a person who believes that we have to live with our desicions and try to make the best of them, it’s probably the one time in my life that I regret. If I could go back and change it, I would.
Even though I didn’t take a more creative path in life, I still hold others who did to a high regard. Multiplaying regular Brian is one such example (check out his work here!), and as someone who loves video games, I have a profound love for art based on them. I especially love the design work that is done when a game is being created. Fan art can be good, but unless the game is played by millions, rarely is it great.
Team Fortress 2 is one such title that gets alot of artwork made in its honor. Rightfully so. But only every once in a while is a piece of fan art made that drops my jaw. The video posted earlier this week is something I’d consider fan art, and it did lower my bottom row of teeth. This piece by Thorsten Denk is another one to add to my gaping maw collection:
