candy

With World of Warcraft out of the front running as a place to spend my weeknights, I’m now in the search for somewhere to frolic. Let’s consider my options.

Last night, I played a bit of Warhammer Online, and was bummed because I evidently logged on about an hour too late and missed the chance to defend the Inevitable City. Bummer! So instead, I continued the weekend’s theme and played the Magus until he hit level 6. I logged off a little before 10pm, still a little wired from the candy I stole from my kids. I sat there looking at the Star Trek Online time card that’s been sitting on my desk for a couple of months now. Weighing my options, I started to peel back the cellophane wrapper and stopped myself.

I thought, “Maybe I should wait to start my affair with STO. There are some other games I could be playing.” The more time I spent thinking about what to play, the more games flooded into my brain. I could play MAG at night and get some much needed experience on my character so that I can buy some new weapons. I could play Lord of the Rings Online and become a screenshot whore again while tossing spears at whatever gets in my way with my Warden. I could keep progressing in Fallout: New Vegas and find out more about this “Mr. House” character I just ran into the other night. I could stop eating candy and get some sleep.

HAHAHA

But seriously, there are tons of options for me right now and I really don’t know what route to take. I wouldn’t mind getting involved with another MMO until the RvR packs are released in WAR, but I don’t want another MMO to soak up too much time. Hell, I still have Bioshock 2 and Dawn of War 2 sitting in my Steam library, waiting to be played. I had been keeping the STO time card on the bench until I got burnt out playing WAR. I figured that would have come in my first month back, but I’m still as excited for the game as I was the first week I came back. But without an easily defined goal as I had with getting to level 40, it becomes a game of moments that can’t be expected, which is what is both bad and amazing about the game.

So, after some consideration, I booted up LotRO and ran around for about a half hour. I’d been meaning to make a return the game ever since it went “free to play” some time ago, but have always been involved with something else. I can’t say I’ll stay long, as that shiny STO time card is still calling, but at least for this week I’ll be traveling through Middle Earth.

  • Season 3 is coming soon for STO. Seasons are basically the big patches. So definitely wait for that. I’m taking a break for a bit. Probably until the user generated content tools come out.

If you wanna keep scratching that Wasteland itch there’s always Fallen Earth too.

Well, even though DoWII isn’t much of a home, it’s still a lot of fun. Did I mention it has co-op?

I’ve been spending my time on multiplayer Minecraft during my free time. Something relaxing about just building, exploring and crafting while socializing. Have WAR mostly on hold until the RvR packs come out I think. Definitely skipping WoW Cataclysm. Zero desire on that.

I did *cough, cough* preorder DCUO, which should give me a beta key for it. You have until Nov 15 I believe to turn a preorder into a beta key. Sigh, I can never stick to my promise to avoid betas when I have MMO boredom.

I’m playing EVE and Darkfall.. Come join me.

  • Play a bit more New Vegas. Mr. House is a wacky fellow!

You know what I am going to say. GLOBAL AGENDA is still free.

    I’d go with LotRO, myself.

Are you still running XP, or have you upgraded? Just wondering if you are seeing the graphical updates that have been made.

    • I’m running 7. It looks damn good (except the character animations, but that’ll never change). Everything is real sharp, almost has a “painted” look to it. Runs really smooth to. I’ll be sure to take a bunch of screenshots over the next week or so.

Oh dear your back to WAR…..Tempting..

ya know, I actually thought about that. But I figured I’d go with affordability first. Lotro is free, and I have an STO time card. Heck, I even have an AoC time card sitting here. =P
