Avenue Z almost ready for beta!
Hi ho! I’ve made a lot of progress on my game. It now has an official name: Avenue Z, and it looks and feels like a real game, albeit a bit sparse. I went for a retro arcady style for the look and gameplay. It is a phone game, and I find that the games I enjoy most on my phone are the arcade style, so there you go. I need to replace the box people models with something new (due to licensing issues), so I’m working hard on that. Once done, I’ll release the beta version and invite folks to give it a try.
For now, here is a video. As you can see, I now have menus, intro screens, new art, sound, music, and all that good stuff. You still walk around, search buildings for loot, shoot zombies (by clicking or touching them), and you have to get to the exit to go to the next level. Eventually, I’ll make it so that each time you go to a new level, the zombies get tougher. I also need a high score tracker so you can show off how elite you are. Hmmm, maybe I should have a high score server that tracks everyone. Hmmm. [WARNING: IMPENDING SCOPE CREEP!]
I’ll let you know when I have the beta version up for play. Until then, watch out for zombies.

Love the sound effect for reloading; made me lol.
Looks like great progress. I’m making a game too atm but it’s all just experimenting/learning how. Nothing I can exactly be proud of at the moment
You know you have at least one person buying this when it comes out.
Hey, thanks! I had fun making the sounds. I’m going to have to make some more soon once I have different weapon types.
How is your game coming along? What kind are you making?
Just a simple top down shooter. I’m just trying to wrap my head around basics. It’s that sort of thing that you make just for yourself, while you learn.
Cool, good luck. Be sure to share some screenshots if nothing else. My one bit of advice is to get it to a playable state as quickly as you can, and get people to try it. Ideas that are good on paper may not turn out to be any fun. Better to find that out early in the process.
One reason I picked zombies is that the AI is pretty straightforward. No one expects zeds to behave very intelligently.
