News Flash!

Hello Muppets! There are so many bits of news I want to talk about lately, but I’m not one for writing full blog posts for news. It would make me look more serious than I want. So here’s a bit of news and my initial thoughts, feel free to discuss!

Call of Duty – gotta get paid, son! [source]

We saw it coming, but now its official; Call of Duty is setting up a service which requires a monthly fee for use. Now, from all I’ve read, it appears that you’ll be able to still play the game online without paying more than you did for the retail box. But, Activision is creating some additional services that, with exclusive map packs and stat tracking (that looks pretty slick btw) will be hard for long time CoD players to ignore.

Me? I’m not the best person to judge. I’ll easily be avoiding the fees just like I’ve avoided the game since Modern Warfare 2. But I do think that for a game which is already setting sales records and maintains some of the most ravenous minions, er, fans already, they should probably be giving back to the community rather than trying to find ways to milk it.

Thoughts?

PSN – Like my hair line…it’s half gone [source]

But unlike my hair line, it can come back! And if the rumors are true, all the services for North America will be back in business by the end of the week. As a consumer, I hope Sony has everything worked out. While canceling my credit card and getting a new one really wasn’t much of a pain, it was something that takes time that I wouldn’t have had to waste if they had their meat and potatoes in the Tupperware, so to speak.

Also, I look forward to my free copy of Infamous.

Perfect World to Acquire Cryptic Studios [source]

I really don’t know what to think of this other than I’m happy that some one did. I really hope that this is a good mate for Cryptic and that Star Trek Online can continue to get better and better.

PSP2/NGP to be named…..no wait, really? What the… [source]

So the Sony NGP (PSP2) has had its name leaked to the public…and it’s called “Vita.” Now, I can’t help but think of an I Love Lucy episode when I read that name, so it’s not all bad. But it is a weird name for a gaming device. But…so is the Wii, and look how fast we got over that.

As the source article suggests though, this may not end up being the final name. But regardless of what name gets plastered on that beautiful piece of equipment, I’m hoping that however ridiculous it is becomes forgotten due to the device itself.

Four clear buttons and two thumb sticks.

Free copy of inFamous? Is that a promotion for the service being screwed for so long of just something you haven’t redeemed yet?

    • The first. There’s a short list of games from which we’ll be able to choose two for free. It’s their “customer appreciation” win-back program that should be up as soon as or very soon after the Store comes back up.

So you are saying, I can get a free copy of inFamous 2? Is there a link to the free stuff we can choose from?

  • Professer says:

Lol @ cryptic going to perfect world. All of their game’s are destined to be freemium, if they already haven’t. (I don’t follow cryptic in the industry–don’t know much)

I really hope the CoD news is another step closer to bringing social-gaming into the FPS world. Perhaps a step towards the first true MMOFPS?

But what I’m really thinking is: More fame to CoD, more domination of the game industry, more money to Activision, and a broken state of the industry. To me; it seems like after CoD4 hit the scene, the FPS genre changed. For good. I personally have disliked most new FPS games because of this.

Awfully disorganized, this isnt a good time, but commented nonetheless
