A Change In Tone From CCP

For those that haven't yet been filled in, today marks a big day in EVE's history. The day CCP serves itself up a big ol' piece of humble pie. For those that don't play EVE or follow CCP a simple apology Dev Blog might not seem like much, but its important to note that this devblog basically apologizes for almost everything every EVE player has been bitching about for the past year. Impossible you say?

No, but certainly not an easy feat to pull off. CCP Hilmar essentially apologizes for Monoclegate, the removal of Ship Spinning, the taking away of resources from Flying in Space to other projects like World of Darkness (which not a single EVE player gives two shits about to be blunt), the lackluster Captain’s Quarters, and the general ‘We’re Above What Our Players Think’ attitude that had such an iron-grip on CCP for awhile.

As of right now, this post is just :words:, and most players are still quoting “It’s not what you say, it’s what you do,” but CCP Zulu’s newest Dev Blog does make it seem like CCP is serious about returning to its roots and focusing on what matters, improving EVE, one step at a time.

A List for Those Curious:

  • Hybrid weapons balancing
  • Factional warfare
  • Assault ships
  • Capital ship balancing
  • New T2 modules
  • Starbase logistics management
  • New EWAR-Drones
  • T2 Rigs manufacturing
  • Ship spinning
  • New font
  • More captains quarters
  • Time dilation

Eating humble pie is never easy, and certainly even harder when you’re serving it to yourself, but I’ll be damn’d if it doesn’t make you look really, really good in the process.

Rer
Howdy, Rer here. I guess this box is where I'm supposed to tell you about myself. Well, I'm 21, a nerd, and I spend more time playing video games than I do sleeping. I also am one of the hosts of League of Legends Coldcasting, while doing my own Let's Plays on my YouTube channel. But enough about me, what about you?

Huh.. why is it whenever I write an EVE post Darth Vader keeps making an appearance? o.O

Another great article. Nice job, Rer.

Yeah, pretty much a full reversal on their part. It seems way out of character. I wonder if the CEO making the apology wasn’t just taking one for the team(or whoever was ultimately responsible), but I guess it doesn’t really matter. The first step is admitting you have a problem, after all.

And none of you care about the World of Darkness? really? I just hope they do the intellectual property some justice.

Admitting your faults isn’t easy. But take this with a grain of salt, the subscription numbers and active players have seen a steady decline in the last six months.
