Aion: Visions of the Future

Today’s big MMO newsflash is this video from NC East showing off their vision for Aions future. Take a gander!

I’m stunned, but worried at the same time. From the amazing battles with whatever those titans made of pure kickass are to the new player housing and mount system, it really makes a case for the game as something you want to be a part of. But I know what is driving me away from the game now, and only time will tell if that gets addressed. My only standout concern from the video is probably the same as everyone else; how will this run on my PC? Some of the frame rate looked to be ticking around 10 or 15 FPS in spots and to me, that’s nearly unplayable.  Especially in an MMO.
Overall I will say that I hope this vision becomes a reality that makes sense for the game and if so, I want to be a part of it. I just hope the flashy cinematic styling of the trailer isn’t a false prophet.

What do you think?

They’re making it even more gorgeous, and it’s the most stable *gorgeous* game I’ve ever played. Player housing? YOU CAN CHOOSE ANY MOUNT YOU WANT.

And I want the repeating crossbow NAO!

And best of all, did you see that Asmodians? ASMODAE WILL BURN! Pandemonium shall fall and all you will have left is your emo boo hoo I should have chose the right side! /Victory!

I’ll play Devils Advocate and say besides looking preety, what else is supposed to drive me back? Maybe Im just bitter :P but nothing really made me jump out of my seat. We’ll talk more about it on the podcast.

Don’t get me wrong the game looks great, but besides city sieges what am I supposed to really be excited about? Even then, when will we realistically see this? 6 months? Finally as Slurms mentions, if Forts lag now, how will this be playable? I look forward to discussing this on the podcast.

Are they trying to say they can do all that with this game? I don’t buy it. NC Soft can’t even keep the gold sellers down to an acceptable level. That was coll, but I just don’t think that is coming anytime soon.

NCSoft banned 16,000 accounts last week and did another wave yesterday.

    Say what?

I agree the video looks stunning, but I’m highly skeptical. The video is a great way to show “possibilities” without having to promise anything in writing. The video gives the impression that these massive improvements to the game are already in development with no proof of that actually being the case.

When I read a developers statement that they are creating player housing, upgrading the graphics, creating some kind of extended combo element to combat, etc. I’ll get excited. But for now I’m going to chalk that video up to marketing in an effort to retain subscribers.
