One month back into Rift

As I went to log into Rift the other night, my access was forbidden. My time card had run out! So with money still parked in my Amazon trade-in credit account, I went looking for another time code. Lucky me, the 60-day codes were on sale for 25 bones. Without hesitation I clicked, copy and pasted the code into my Trion account page and BAM, into Telara I went.

That same night, I hit level 20. Yes, that’s how slow I’ve been moving through Rift this time around, and it seems to be just the right pace for me. I believe that last time I was already around level 30 by the time my free-with-box-purchase month was up. The kicker is that I’m not even out of the first post-starter zone! On top of that, I probably have at least a dozen quests to still complete there, as well as the dailies from the Waves of Madness world event. I’M NEVER LEAVING SILVERWOOD!

In all honestly though, I am getting the itch to move on. I think the dailies are starting to wear on me a bit, and going back and forth through the same spots I’ve seen so many times is making my eyes hungry for new scenery. One thing I noted last night about the difference between Silverwood and Freemarch is the amount of Rifts I’ve seen.

Yes, Silverwood probably has the same number of Rifts open on any given day, but I think the placement of them makes it more interesting. Most of them are amongst mobs in areas that you’d have to kill other mobs to get to (depending on your level), whereas in Freemarch, there were a couple that spawned constantly very near where you began your time in the zone. The thing that really stands out to me is how sick of seeing Death Rifts I got by the time I was level 10 as a Defiant, but there’s no similar feeling being on the Guardian side.

I’m guessing that by this time next week, I’ll either be done with all the quests in Silverwood, or I’ll be eager enough for new sights that I’ll move on. I’ve been told I have options. Any suggestions as to where I should head next?

I remember the first Open beta for Rift I got into, I think it was 5. I got to Quicksilver College, and that was pretty much where I stayed the rest of that weekend. Whenever I logged in, it was constantly under siege from Life rifts, and After a few hours I went from level 13 to 18, without leaving town. This was mainly accomplished by siting back and healing raids that were trying to defend against the constant onslaught. Good times!

I was a very slow leveler too. When I finally left Silverwood I kind of lost interest. I found the next zone (Gloamwood?) was depressing and not much fun for me. Even the players there seemed depressed.

Stupid me, I bought a 6 month sub at launch. So I’m still active but haven’t played in probably a month. I should poke my nose back in at some point.

While you *can* leave Silverwood (head to the north as you exit Sanctum) the mobs you’ll find in the Moonshade Highlands after you cross the border are level 36, which might be a bit much for you ;-)

Progression is linear for the 1st 2 zones on both sides — Defiants go from Freemarch to Stonefield. Guardians go from Silverwood to Gloamwood.

All the zones after that are shared. It’s suggested that you hit up Scarlet gorge for either side after leaving “zone 2″ but you can skip it and go to Scarwood Reach if you want.

Moonshade Highlands and Droughtlands both start at level 36. Shimmersand and Iron Pine Peak both start at 42. The difference being that Shimmersand has enough quests in it to take easily take you to 50, while IPP does have mobs up to 50, but the quest lines will only get you to about 48 and then you have to go to Stillmoor to finish getting to 50.

In the highest-level zones you’ll be doing all the quests to gain faction anyway though, so the order you do them doesn’t really matter.

Someone said there are two ways you can go out of Silverwood. I think I’ll find the one that’s not Gloamwood =o
