I was never much one for Diablo. In fact, I thought it was one of the most monotonous games I’ve ever played. But I understood why people liked it. It was a fast paced dungeon crawler with huge boss battles, there was a seemingly limitless amount of loot that you could strive to get for your character, and the story was solid. I just simply hated the interaction with the game, endlessly clicking on targets until they broke before the might of your finger clicks. The idea to apply this sort of chaos to a first person shooter was fully realized in the game Hellgate London. The hype behind the game was unreal. When you have some of the original creators of Diablo (with fans in the millions), working on a first person shooter that was Diablo-esque, you have people foam at the mouth. Until the game hits stores. I cannot say from personal experience that the game was utter crap, I’ve never played it. But in most peoples opinions,….the game was utter crap.

Evidently, someone out there thought it was still a possibility to mix almost every currently popular gaming genre into one neat little package. Gearbox has been working on the game for a while, and actually pushed it back to give the game some extra added polish, which includes a new look. Hit the video which I stoled from Giant Bomb for more details about the game, the reason for the new look, and (what I find to be the most intriguing) the weapon creating artificial intelligence.

I have to say I saw the pictures from the game months ago and didn’t think much of it. I saw that they went through a graphical overhaul and shrugged it off. I didn’t think they would be able to pull of a miss-mash of genres any more successfully than Flagship could with Hellgate. I still have lots of questions about character customization, how multi-player will really work and resistance of the PC version being hacked to hell like Diablo was. But after seeing the gameplay, listening to the positive press, and the chap in the video talk about all the features…October may be a good month.

Wow. Great find guys, I’d never seen this one before. It’s really looking to take over CoD4 as my FPS of choice. Can’t wait for October now!

Been tracking this for a while. With its old art style it was less fun looking. New style looks great, and I can’t wait for that 4-player co-op!

Sounds cool. A bit like Dungeon Runner, but more shooty. The art looks like Champions Online. I’d play that.

I took a look at some screenshots of the older graphics and wow, what a hell of an improvement they made. Not that the old graphics were terrible, they just didn’t have any kind of identity. The new graphics ooze style and I think will make the game more engaging. It’s this kind of attention to detail that really sets games apart. I’m convinced that TF2 wouldn’t be anywhere near as popular as it is if they hadn’t taken a very stylistic approach to the graphics.

Thanks for putting this on my radar!

Art Style reminds me of Level 5 Entertainment’s “Rogue Galaxy”. Great game, always a huge fan of Level 5. Hopefully a game like this will be successful.

I am excited for this game. The art-style is great, and the combat looks solid.
