Just Cause 2 released today. Regretfully, I do not have my copy yet due to a little financial mishap where I spent the money I was going to use for Just Cause 2 on a Mystery Science Theater 3000 DVD set. I know, i know, I should have waited and got Just Cause 2, but this came with a little Tom Servo toy! Anyways, late last week, before my money started burning a hole in my pocket, I began to wonder if the PC version of JC2 was really the way to go. So, to make sure I was making the most out of my experience, I decided to download the PS3 version of the game.

Please note, I am a PC gamer at heart. I have come to the conclusion over the years that for me, the control scheme on the PC is simply better for certain games like shooters and real time strategy games, whereas the console dominates the field of fighters, action/adventure games and sports/racing. Just Cause 2 rides the fence on shooter and action game so I thought it might be a toss up. I was wrong on more levels than just control. The game feels alot clunkier on the console. It’s not too dissimilar to the feel of playing Grand Theft Auto IV, but it’s a faster game, so you have to try and keep up. You simply don’t have the level of accuracy that the mouse yields. Driving the cars feels a touch better on the console, but I’ve found that the developers did a dandy job getting all the vehicles to work fluidly on the PC.

Here’s the real kicker though; it even looks much better on the PC. I have what most would call a moderate system for PC gaming, and from textures to frame-rate, nothing on the PS3 version of Just Cause 2 looked better. I still think it was fine to play though. Ultimately I suggest that you try out both versions for yourself and see which feels better to you. But don’t be surprised if you end up going with the one that looks better, feels better, and is ten dollars cheaper.
